'Descent into Madness' Giclée Print
Back in the Edo Period, most houses were built from wood, and so fire was always a concern. There are several prints from the 1800s depicting firemen in action, and I referenced these heavily for this composition. The snaking, rake-like fire lines were achieved by flattening a large Japanese brush, and dragging the bristles over the paper in one smooth motion. Honestly, it took a few tries to get it right!
The left cartouche says "Dark Knight" and the right one loosely translates as "Become a monster to fight monsters."
Archival pigments on acid-free handmade Japanese paper.
